Performing more than thousand corneal transplant surgeries at Al-Zahra Eye Hospital in Zahedan

Approximately 1100 corneal transplant surgeries have been performed at Al-Zahra Eye hospital in Zahedan over the past 14 years.
Dr. Alireza Maleki, the head of Al-Zahra Eye Hospital, stated: Individuals who suffer from eye diseases such as advanced keratoconus, thinning and deformation of the cornea, infections resulting from wounds such as herpes or fungal keratitis, chemical burns of the cornea, or irreparable damage to the cornea undergo corneal transplant surgery to improve their eye conditions and prevent vision impairment.
He continued: cornea sub-specialists at the specialized clinic of the hospital initially examine these individuals, and if eligible, they become candidates for corneal transplant surgery.
Dr. Maleki stated: In corneal transplant surgery, the damaged portion of the cornea is removed and replaced with a healthy cornea.
He added: There are two common methods for performing corneal transplant, and both methods are carried out at Al-Zahra (AS) Hospital.
